Daniel Augsburger (right), professor of religion at Andrews University, receives an engraved gold watch in recognition of his 30 years of service to the university from Joseph Smoot, vice president for academic administration. The award was made during the annual faculty-board-staff banquet. Augsburger joined the Andrews faculty immediately after receiving his bachelor of arts degree in religion and history from Columbia Union College, Takoma Park, Maryland, in 1942. He held the bachelor of divinity degree from the Seventh-Day Adventist Theological Seminary as well as an M.A. in German and a Ph.D. in French from the University of Michigan, and was in the process of working on a second doctorate from the University of Strasbourg, France when this photo was taken
