Warren Eugene Howell was an active Seventh-day Adventist administrator and educator. Howell was a professor at Healdsburg College, principal of Palama Chinese School in Honolulu, a professor at Emmanuel Missionary College, the first president of the College of Medical Evangelists (now Loma Linda University), and a principal of the Fireside Correspondence School. In addition, he served as associate editor (1909—1914) and editor (1914—1916 and 1918—1930) of Christian Education, chair of the committee appointed to revise the book Daniel and the Revelation, and secretary of the Spirit of Missions Committee, which promoted and directed college and seminary mission language study. From 1930 until his death, Howell served as the secretary to the president of the General Conference.

From 1913 to 1928 Warren Eugene Howel served as assistant secretary and then secretary of the General Conference Department of Education. He traveled extensively during this time and made multiple albums of postcards and photographs of his travels and his visits with Adventist institutions around the world. Howell visited South America in 1920 and wrote about his experiences in a series of Review and Herald columns called "School Notes in South America." The Warren Eugene Howell Travel Album, South America II, is one of three albums dedicated to South American travels, and consists of photographs and postcards acquired during Howell's 1920 and 1927 tours of South America. The images include Adventist educators and students, landmarks, and famous figures.

The provenance of the albums is undocumented but it is presumed that Howell donated them to the College of Medical Evangelists to serve as an inspiration and educational tool for students and faculty. The Heritage Research Center inherited the albums from the College of Medical Evangelists Office of Historical Records.
