NIELS-ERIK ANDREASEN Andrews University President Attending a university is much about making promises and keeping them. Those of you who are completing your studies this year will have kept a promise you made to Andrews years ago, and Andrews will have kept a promise it made to you at the same time. So you will graduate, and | want to be the first to congratulate you. For those of you who will continue next year, may | remind you that the entire university bulletin is a book of promises to students that if you meet the degree requirements listed there, the university will graduate you. It is a promise we will keep, if you keep yours. The world is full of broken promises so it is a good thing to begin life by keeping some, right here at Andrews. | hope you will think about that in your new position, or summer job, or in the graduate program you hope to begin, or in any personal relationship you seek. “I promise” are two powerful words if we take them seriously. So, | recommend that you keep making promises to your family and friends, your fellow students, work mates, neighbors, and God —promises you can keep. Promises protect, they make life secure, take away fear and bring comfort. Naturally, the more we have learned about things and each other, the better our promises can be, and you are learning a lot here. So make good promises to those around you—and keep them. That is what God would like you to promise Him.
