“It is the purpose of redemption, not only to blot out sin, but to give back to man those spiritual gifts lost because of sin's dwarfing power “ COL p. 266. “ Jesus became a man that He might mediate between man and God. He clothed His divinity with humanity, He associated with the human race, that with His long human arm He might encircle humani- ty, and with His divine arm grasp the throne of Divinity. And this, that He might restore to man the original mind which he lost in Eden through Satan's alluring temptation “ 7BC p. 926. Those who experience the blotting out of sins and the re- ception of the latter rain will be the unique group of saints in these last days called the 144,000. They are pictured in Zechari- ah 3:1-8. They come to the day of atonement still clothed in the filthy garments of past sins. But when Christ gives the com- mand to take away their filthy garments and to clothe them with a robe of everlasting righteousness, they are designated as “ men wondered at.“ “ Now they are eternally secure from the tempters de- vices “ and are sealed in that perfection with the seal of the living God. 5T p. 475. Joel 2:2 describes then as “ a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. ” DIVINE POWER COMBINED WITH HUMAN EFFORT Having received the outpouring of the latter rain, the 144,000 go forth in mighty power to proclaim the loud cry. “ Servants of God, endowed with power from on high with their faces lighted up, and shining with holy consecration, went forth to proclaim the message from heaven. Souls that were scattered all through the reli- gious bodies answered to the call, and the precious were hurried out of the doomed churches, as Lot was hurried out of Sodom before her de- struction. God's people were strengthened by the excellent glory which rested upon them in rich abundance and prepared them to 20 never have rebelled “ GC p. 499. In other words, they claimed if they had not been enlightened regarding the sinfulness of their course, they would not have become rebellious. Today, Satan's deceptions are evident in many govern- ment policies dealing with the drug problem. Instead of trying to correct the evil, they think they can solve the drug problem by legalizing it and doing away with the laws against drugs. Back in the prohibition days, those who loved their alcohol argued that the prohibition laws were the cause of alcoholism in society. The solution, they claimed, was to do away with the prohibition laws. But it has become obvious that doing away with the laws against drinking has not done away with alcoholism; it has only increased it tenfold. Thus we can see that the great enmity against the law of God is manifested in many aspects of society. It will be the great central issue in the end time. The contest will be between Lucifer’s principles of freedom from law and God's principles of freedom through conformity to the law. DID GOD MAKE A LAW THAT CAN'T BE KEPT? Lucifer’s argument is that the law of God makes people sinners because it cannot be perfectly obeyed. He maintains that one third of the angels couldn't keep it, and none of the inhabit- ants of earth have been able keep it. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. None have been able to keep it per- fectly. But Christ promised that through His redeeming grace, even the weakest generation of earth will be enabled to perfectly obey His law. He will point to them before the whole universe and say “ Here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. . . And in their mouth was found no guile; for they are without fault before the throne of God “ Revelation 14:12 & 5. However, up to this point in time, none of Christ's follow- ers have been able to keep God's law perfectly. They have all 9
