(Excerpts from the report of J4. J. Aitken,
President of the South American Division, given
at the time of the 1964 Annual Division meet-
ing.)
T THIS time I am thinking of a special promise
of God which I would like to consider
with you. It is found in Psalms 2: 8. “Ask of me,
and I shall give thee the heathen for thine
inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth
for thy possession.”
In 1958 we longed for the day when we would
baptize 10,000 souls in one year in the entire
Division. Our result for the year 1958 was 8,502.
In the year 1962 our faith increased and we set
our goal for 13,000 souls, and 13,551 were baptized.
This year in faith we have asked God for 18,000
souls and have daily earnestly prayed that we
migth reach this goal. To date for the third
quarter of 1964 we have reported 9,035 baptisms.
Tonight I wish to thank each and every one
of you as leaders in the Cause of God for your
contribution to soul winning and evangelism in
the South American Division. Our pastors, evan-
gelists, colporteurs, and vibrant youth, and our
mighty army of laymen are uniting their efforts
as .never before as conquerors, “conquistadores”,
for Christ in the winning of souls, which is really
the first business of the Church in this last hour
of earth’s history. -
Recently at the Fall Council in Washington,
Elder Figuhr pointed out to the assembled leaders
from the world fields that the first thing that
God expects of each one of us is LOYALTY to
the Truth and the Cause of God. Without loyalty
no leader or worker can be useful in building up
the Church.
Speaking first of our cities, in just three evan-
gelistic campaigns, in Temuco, Chile, La Plata,
Argentina, and a suburb of Sac Paulo, Pinheiros,
Brazil, more than 500 souls were baptized, this
through the efforts of Pastor Salim Japas in
Temuco, Pastor Carlos Aeschlimann in La Plata,
and Pastor Alcides Campolongo in Sao Paulo.
In one baptism alone in Sao Paulo, 231 were
baptized. Just recently the second largest city
of Argentina, Rosario, was shaken with the Advent
Message with the campaign of Pastor Schmidt
and his corps of some 20 workers. More than
200 souls have been baptized in this effort. During
the year 1964 we are preparing the ground for
a great evangelistic campaign in the metropolis of
Buenos Aires, a city of some seven million people.
This year the Fernando Stahl, our mission
plane in the Inca Union, went into action in a
great humanitarian effort with its highly.qualified
pilot, Clyde Peters, to open up new mission fron-
tiers. At least six lives were saved in the first
months of operation of this plane.
After ten years of faithful building up of the
medical work in Paraguay, Dr. Ira Bailie is
encouraged with seeing the medical work break-
ing down opposition to the fruth. From the
humblest Paraguayan to the president of the

STOY pensando en una de las promesas de Dios
que me gustaria considerar con ustedes. La en-
contramos en Salmos 2:8, y dice: “Pideme, y te daré
por herencia las naciones, y como posesion tuya los
confines de la tierra”.
En 1958 esperabamos que llegaran los dias cuando
bautizariamos 10.000 almas en un aio en toda la
division. Los resultados en 1958 fueron 8.502. En
el ano 1962 nuestra fe 'crecid y pusimos un blanco
de 13.000 almas, y 13.551 fueron bautizadas. Este ano,
con fe pedimos a Dios 18.000 almas y oramos diaria-
mente para alcanzar ese blanco. Al finalizar el tercer
trimestre de 1964, hemos alcanzado 9.035 bautismos.
Esta noche deseo agradecer a cada uno de ustedes
como dirigentes en la causa de Dios por su contribucion
en la ganancia de almas y el evangelismo en la Divisién
Sudamericana. Nuestros pastores, evangelistas, colpor-
tores, nuestra vibrante juventud, y nuestro gran ejér-
cito de laicos estan uniendo sus esfuerzos como nunca
antes, como conquistadores en la ganancia de almas
para Cristo, que es realmente la principal tarea de la
iglesia en estos Gltimos dias de la historia de esta tierra.
Recientemente, en el concilio otonlal de la Asociacién
General en Washington, el pastor Figuhr puntualizé a la
asamblea de dirigentes de los campos mundiales que
la primera cosa que Dios espera de cada uno de nos-
otros es LEALTAD a la verdad y a la causa de Dios.
Sin lealtad, ningdn dirigente ni obrero puede ser
usado para la edificacion de la iglesia.
Hablando primero de nuestras ciudades, en tres cam-
pafias evangelisticas, en Temuco, Chile, La Plata, Ar-
gentina, y en los suburbios de San Pablo, Pinheiros,
Brasil, mas de 500 almas fueron bautizadas mediante
los esfuerzos del pastor Salim Japas en Temuco, el
pastor Carlos Aeschlimann en La Plata, y el pastor
Alcides Campolongo en San Pablo. En un solo bau-
tismo en San Pablo fueron bautizadas 231 almas. Re-
cientemente la segunda ciudad de la Argentina, Rosa-
rio, fue sacudida con el mensaje adventista por medio
de la campaia del pastor Schmidt y su cuerpo de
20 obreros. Mas de 200 almas han sido bautizadas en
esta labor. Durante el afio 1964, hemos estado pre-
parando el terreno para una gran campaiia de evan-
gelizacion en la gran metrépoli de Buenos Aires, una
ciudad de unos 7.000.000 de habitantes.
" Este afio, el Fernando Stahl, nuestro avién misionero
en la Unién Incaica, con su experfo piloto, Clyde Peters,
se puso en accion en un gran esfuerzo humanitario
para abrir una nueva frontera misionera. Seis vidas
fueron salvadas en los primeros meses de actividad
de este avin.
Después de diez afios de fervientes esfuerzos para
establecer la obra médica en el Paraguay, el Dr. Ira
Bailie estd haciéndola progresar y se ve que esta
deshaciendo los prejuicios contra nuestra organizacion.
