Thanks te the 13th Sabbath Overflow! RAY L. JACOBS A group of visitors was being shown the beautiful Franco-Haitian Seminary. Although this visit was unannounced, the dormitories were in perfect order; the beds were neatly made and the tile floors shone with a high polish. The grass on the lawns was cut, and students moved about in an orderly way, dressed in their attractive school uniforms. As the visitors stood admiring the simple but functional, well-built ad- ministration building, someone asked, “Has this school ever received the benefits from a 13th Sabbath Over- flow Offering?” | With a smile, portraying great satisfaction, the director of the Sem- inary, Roy Perrin, answered, “Yes, vou are now looking at the results of just such an offering.” That building with its airv class- rooms, its comfortable offices, its ample library, and its neat dining room and kitchen, was a reality be- cause faithful Sabbath school mem- bers around the world had given “a little extra” on a 13th Sabbath a few quarters ago. But this was not just another build- ing. It represented the transformation of a school. Now that classes no longer have to be taught in the dorm- itory rooms, the school has been able to accept two or three times as many students as in former years, College work can now be offered, and students are being received from the entire Franco-Haitian Union. One girl came from a distant island and from a horne that opposes her in her new-found religion. She had to come entirely on her own, but she has talents and wants to prepare to be a worker. Now she has her opportunity —thanks to the 13th Sabbath Over- flow Offering! A young man talked to the leaders about his desire to be a minister. Another wants to be a treasurer. Here they are: future teachers, Bible workers, and colporteurs, future leaders in the Cause of God and future’ inhabitants of heaven—thanks to the 13th ~ Sabbath Overflow Offering! What an opportunity and what a challenge—building by giving liberal- ly on every 13th Sabbath! Sabbath school members, be sure you share MAY, 1963!" The sacrificial giving of Seventh-day Adventists around the world on the third quarter 13th Sabbath, 1958, provided funds for the construction of this administration building at the Franco-Haitian Seminary, a building which changed a whole school. in the giving and you will not tail to share in the eternal results. What a privilege! DEDICATION (Continued from page 6) something I want to tell Him myself.” They knelt beside a tree, and the minister prayed. A pause came after the Amen, and then the man opened his heart in prayer: “Dear Lord, You have my whole estate. Am I not now in a position to give You my way- ward boy? Mother and I seem to have no influence with him. Every: thing I have is Yours now, Lord. Won't You take my boy this same way and save him, save him soon? Please, heavenly Father. Amen.” At five o'clock that Friday after- noon this same minister was speaking to the voung; people. An appeal was made for consecration. An indifferent young man who had first stood at the edge of the tent, then sat in a rear seat, had grown very serious. The Holy Spirit was moving upon his heart. He arose and came forward to make his decision for Christ. On the other side of the tent was the father who had dedicated that boy to God that morning, tears of joy making his eyes glisten. Oh, what power a man or a woman has with God—what power to move the arm of Omnipotence—if he is willing to say, “Everything I have is Yours and I am Yours to go, to stay, to be, to do as You wish, dear Master.” Then surely God “shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and heart of the children to their fathers”; and our homes will be as God planned them to be—a pathway of mutual love that leads to the eternal home of jov and perfect companionship. The Lord desires that His word of grace shall be brought home to every soul. To a great degree this must be accoinplished by personal labour. This was Christ's method. His work was largely made up of personal inter. views. He had a faithful regard for the one-soul audience. Through thai one soul the message was ofien extended to thousands. ~Christ's Object Lessons, page 229 7
