Siegfried Horn, curator of the Andrews University Archaeological Museum which opened January 17, 1970, shows a replica of a statuette of a Sumerian dignitary from about 2500 B.C. Such figures, which may have been portraits, were placed in a temple sanctuary so that the owner would always be represented in the presence of the god.
