That is the land where Father Time dwells, in a house as old as the world itself, with an old garret full of all manner of queer, forgotten things. And now, away over in the darkest corner of all, you will see an old clock. standing silent and alone, with neither a tick nor a ting unless there be someone nearby, to know that this is a magic clock, the wonder clock. But if you will take the key that hangs at the back and wind it up, first you will hear it play a merry little tune, and then it will begin to strike. And then you know that it is story time. Now the first story that I'm going to tell you today is called "The Master of All Masters." And you want to listen carefully because there's some funny words in it that you will want to remember. Now once upon a time there was a little old man who lived all by himself in a house under a hill. He made his own clothes, cleaned his own house, and he cooked all of his own food. And this little old man made his own clothes, cleaned his own house, and he cooked all of his own food. And this went on for many, many years, until he became so old and so full of rheumatism that he said to himself, "Here it is. I can no longer bend over to scrub my flora myself. I can't even hold a needle. I'll go off to the next fair, and I'll get myself a maid servant to do the work for me, so I will." And he did. But when he brought her home, he said to her, "Now this is a small house, and there's not too much work to do. But there's some things I have to teach you. I have all my own names for things, and you must be sure to call them by those names." "Now," he said, "what are you going to call me?" "Oh, my master, whatever you please, sir," said the maid. "Oh, no," said the old man. "You must call me the master of all masters." Then he pointed over to the fire that was blazing away on the hearth. "What are you gonna call that?" said he. "The fire or the heat or whatever you please, sir." "No indeed, that's the hot coccolorum," said the man. What's that sitting next to it? "That? Oh, that's the cat or the kitty, sir." "No, indeed. That's white face him and he," said the man. "And look in the pale. What's that?" "Oh, water, sir." "No, indeed. That's Pondelorum," said the man. Then he pointed down to his funny old suit. "Now what are you going to call these?" "Your squibs and crackers, sir." "That's right," said the man. Then he pointed over to a cot in the corner of the room, and what is that? "Your bed or your cot, sir?" "No, indeed. It's my barnacle," said the man. And as for this, and he pointed all around his house, this she must call, "High Topper Mountain." Well, that night, when the old man was sound asleep, he was awakened by a loud knock at the door, and he heard the maid's servant cry out, "O master of all masters, get out of your barnacle and put on your squibs and crackers. For white -faced simony has a spot of hot coccolorum on her tail. And if you don't hurry up and pour on some pondolorum, high -topper mountain will be all hot coccolorum." And that's all. Well, now I see that our clock is almost running out. So that's all, boys and girls. until next week. Be with us next Tuesday when the Wonder Clock strikes again. Goodbye. That's it for now, boys and girls. We'll see you again next week. Your friendly guide to Wonderland is Miss Marion Wessel. The illustrations used on this program were drawn by Lois Linsky and released for the library's use. use on television by GP Putnam's and Sun's.
