Published continuously since 1969, SPECTRUM: A Quarterly Journal of the Association of Adventist Forums, was founded by Seventh-day Adventists in supportive consultation with denominational leaders. From the first issue it has encouraged Adventist participation in the discussion of contemporary issues from a Christian viewpoint, to look without prejudice at all sides of a subject, to evaluate the merits of diverse views, and to foster intellectual and cultural growth.

A 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Association of Adventist Forums board of directors and donors, as well as Spectrum's editorial staff, writers, and readers have served at all levels of the denomination. Its institutional and funding independence has allowed Spectrum (as the umbrella org is popularly represented) to provide its community—comfortable, testing, and beyond Adventism's borders—with respected, investigative solutions journalism, academic scholarship free from dogmatic control, and inspiring creative work. In addition to the printed issues in these archives, Spectrum's mission to create community through conversation continues at spectrummagazine.org as well as via a variety of other media accounts and in-person gatherings.
